Happy 8th Day of Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy… Feast of the Circumcision of Christ? “Happy holidays” indeed.

I’m kicking off 2019 by supporting App Camp for Girls, a program to help girls, transgender & gender non-conforming youth learn about the practice and business of technology with hands-on experience, and inspire them towards tech. It’s a great direct action approach to combating some of the problems leading to the remarkable under-representation of their adult counterparts in the tech world. Participating youth work with volunteers from the industry to build an actual app, as well as learn about what’s involved in making that part of a business.

In four year, App Camp has run camps for 235 youth at 22 camps in 7 cities in the US and Canada. Towards the end of 2017, they ran a succesful campaign to fund expansion to three new cities in 2020.
